Peach Melba: A Hand-Painted Yarn That Shines in the Melody Sweater by Miki Teragaki
When I dreamed up Peach Melba, I wanted a colourway that was playful with full of movement on the needles. This hand-painted skein is half peach and half orchid, designed specifically to create beautiful color pooling that makes a fabric that is interesting but wearable.
Recently, Peach Melba’s full potential was on display in the Melody sweater by designer Miki Teragaki, published in Laine Publishing’s stunning new book, Knit Pop: Designs for the Modern Maker. The sweater’s construction simple texture shows off Peach Melba’s color pooling beautifully, making it a perfect pairing of yarn and pattern.
The Yarn Behind the Melody Sweater
For Melody, Miki used two of our most loved yarn bases:
-
Single Ply Fingering in Peach Melba – a soft, drapey single ply yarn that lets the peach and orchid tones pool perfectly.
-
Super Kid Mohair Silk in Neon Coral – our luxurious lace-weight mohair base, adding a halo of color and texture.
Together, these yarns create an unforgettable fabric: light yet cozy, soft yet structured, and brimming with personality.
Why Peach Melba is Perfect for Color Pooling
Peach Melba was intentionally designed as a split of peach and orchid to encourage color pooling in your projects. When knit at the right gauge, the colors stack and shift into painterly patterns that feel almost like tie-dye—but with the elegance of hand-dyed yarn.
Because each skein is hand-painted in small batches in our Brooklyn studio, no two projects will be exactly alike. Making Peach Melba especially exciting for adventurous knitters who love to let the yarn do its magic.
