FAQs

I just placed an order from an online update, when will it ship?

We try our best to ship items as fast as we can after the yarn is dyed! In general, yarn will ship between 2-3 weeks after you place your order. Some yarn will have longer lead times, such as pre-orders. Please make sure to read the product descriptions so you know what to expect.

I made a custom pre-order this past January. When does that ship? Why does the yarn I pre-ordered look like it's in stock in the monthly shop update?

We really appreciate you making a custom purchase! Our pre-orders and our regular shop updates are on different production schedules. The pre-orders were listed with an estimated ship date in late April/early May. But some of those yarns are already in process, and we are shipping your orders to you as soon as your entire purchase is ready to go. We thank you for your patience.

I am not in love with my order, can I return something?

In general, we do not accept returns unless there is a defect with your product on arrival. We are unable to accept returns of yarn that is already wound or caked. Please be in touch with us if you are unhappy with your order in any way and we will see how we can help.

Can I cancel my order or part of my order?

Definitely! You must cancel your order or part of your order before it ships.

I made multiple orders, can you combine shipping?

For US-based customers, we are no longer able to combine shipping. If you are an international customer, please get in touch with us.

Can you match dye lots for the yarn in my order?

Each hand-dyed lot consists of 8 skeins. We promise to make sure all of the yarn within one order comes from the same dye lot. If your orders includes more than 8 skeins of a colorway + base, we will pull your yarn from adjacent lots so the dye is as similar as possible.

I'm local/I'm visiting Brooklyn! Can I pick up my order in person?

Because we are primarily an operating dye studio, we only do curbside pick-up for orders at the moment during operating hours, generally between 11am and 5pm on weekdays. Contact us to schedule a time, and we will refund you any shipping after you pick up your purchase.

Do I need to jog skeins?

We hand-dye from standardized recipes that we've developed, so your yarn should always be fairly uniform. Our yarns are designed so that you do not need to jog skeins as you work. In fact, we do not recommend it!

How do I care for my knits or crochets made with The Wandering Flock yarn?

We recommend soaking your garment in cool water with a wool-safe wash (we like the no-rinse varieties like Soak and Eucalan). Let it rest for 15 minutes, and then gently squeeze out the water. Do not wring your knits! This can damage wet fiber. Then lay out your garment to shape on a non-porous surface and let air dry somewhere without direct sunlight. Machine washing and drying are discouraged.

I am a designer and want to make something in your yarn! Can I have yarn support?

Reach out to us! We love working with designers (:

I have a question that wasn't answered, can you please help?

Absolutely! Please use either the Contact Us page to send us a message, or email hello@thewanderingflock.com
