Serena brings their background as both an art history educator and a knitwear designer to the classroom, weaving in values of sustainability, heritage materials, diasporic knowledge, and queer playfulness. Their patterns are designed as templates for exploration—encouraging you to experiment with color, silhouette, and modifications, so that every project feels uniquely yours.

Serena (they/them) splits time between teaching art history and designing patterns from their home base in NYC. Their knit work invests in reducing waste, heritage materials, diasporic knowledge, and queer playfulness. They want their patterns to function like templates to experiment with your individual sense of color & silhouette & possible modifications--and leave you with a sense of ownership of your knitting and skills. The name ozuko is a tribute to senior yarn inspectors, Ozu (cat) and Kopiko (also cat). As you read this, they are chomping & chasing & napping on Serena's yarn.
